Trenton Employee Contract Negotiations Continue Past Deadline

Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner is optimistic an agreement will be made in the near future.

The July 1 deadline for an agreement between the City of Trenton and union city employees has come and gone and negotiations continued Tuesday morning.

Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner said all issues regarding contract negotiations are being addressed and parties including the Trenton police and fire department unions and the municipal employees union known as the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees or AFSCME, are making progress.

A special meeting has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 9 at for the purposes of voting on final contracts for all bargining units.

"We are continuing to negotiate and address the issues that pertain to the contract," Wagner said. "I'm optimistic that we will come to an agreement in the near future."

Wagner said he would not discuss contract specific information including the reason negotiations are taking longer than expected.
