Trenton City Council Proposes New Fireworks Ordinance

Violation of the new ordinance could mean up to 30 days in jail or a $500 fine.

A new ordinance is expected to be discussed regarding fireworks at at Monday's Trenton City Council meeting.

The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the council chambers at Trenton City Hall.

The proposed amendement will be discussed to limit the use of fireworks during certain hours of national holidays.

The amendment reads:

A person shall not ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks, as such term is defined in State Law, except for the use of consumer fireworks on the day preceding  the day of, or the day after the following national holidays:

  • New Year's Day, but not between 1 and 4 a.m.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • President's Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Memorial Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Independence Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Labor Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Columbus Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Veterans Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Thanksgiving Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
  • Christmas Day, but not between midnight and 8 a.m.
Violation of the new ordinance could mean up to 30 days in jail or a $500 fine.

The new ordinance is in conformity with state law, according to the proposed ordinance.
