State Rep. Pat Somerville: 'Legislation Helped Michigan Comeback'

State Rep. Pat Somerville today applauded the  announcement that Michigan has been ranked the No. 4 state for major new corporate facilities and expansions in 2012 by Site Selection magazine.

One of the new corporate projects that helped propel Michigan into the top-five spot was automotive supplier Brose, which oversaw an expansion in New Boston.

"Michigan has become very attractive to companies looking to build new corporate facilities because of the work the Legislature has done over the past two years in reforming laws to be more business friendly," said Somerville, R-New Boston. "It is clear that business see Michigan as fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurial prosperity."

Site Selection, a global business publication, verified 337 projects in Michigan that met capital investment, job-creation or size standards as part of its annual Governor’s Cup ranking. This year, Michigan finished behind first-place Texas, second-place Ohio and third-place Pennsylvania. Rounding out the top 10 were Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky.

"Last year was just the beginning of Michigan's turnaround," Somerville said. "The House Republican Action Plan is going to continue to drive us down the road to economic growth and prosperity."
