Riverview Landfill Issued Second Violation for Odor

Trenton residents continue to complain about a odor coming from the Riverview Land Preserve.

The received a second noncompliance for odor on March 22 after a Trenton resident called a hotline and complained about the odor.

The Land Resource Management Division for Wayne County issued the violation.

This makes issued to the landfill since February.

The most recent complaint came from a Trenton resident on Pinetree Drive, less than a half-mile away from the facility.

There were 28 complaints concerning odor from the landfill in March and Patrick Cullen, acting director of the division, said most of them were made by Trenton residents.

The Land Resource Management Division sent an inspector to Pinetree Drive to verify the odor mentioned in the complaint and then issued the noncompliance. The violation was issued to the facility.

Facility officials submitted a plan of action to Cullen’s division to resolve the odor problem.

In April, there have been few complaints, so far, and Cullen said he is confident the odor issue will be resolved.

Cullen said his division is not taking any disciplinary action against the facility or its employees.

Riverview officials could not be reached for comment.
