Rep. Pat Somerville Named Vice Chair of House Financial Services Committee

Rep. Pat Somerville represents the 23rd House District which encompasses Brownstown Township, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile Township, Huron Township, Trenton and Woodhaven.

State Rep. Pat Somerville (R-New Boston) this week was appointed to serve as the vice chair of the House Committee on Financial Services for the 97th Legislature.  He will also serve on the Commerce, Local Government and Tax Policy committees.

"We have been able to make significant reforms over the past two years that have helped turn this state around and gotten us back on the right path," said Somerville. "We have accomplished a lot of good in that short time, but there is still so much to do.  I look forward to using this new leadership position to continue making Michigan a better place to live and work for us all."

House Committees review all legislation that affects their issue area and make recommendations as to whether to the full House should take up the bill.  Committee chairs decide when bills are heard, run the committee meetings and organize informational hearings to help the lawmakers and the public understand important issues.
