Poll: Do You Vote?

Voting is a right, right?

Voter turnout isn't 100 percent, unfortunately. So, some of you aren't voting.

In Trenton's last November election, the gubernatorial one that made One Tough Nerd (as in Rick Snyder) governor of Michigan, there was a 51 percent voter turnout. Another gubernatorial race in 2006 brought 63 percent of Trenton residents out to vote.

Gubernatorial races in 2006 and 2010 had the highest voter turnout in the last five years with the exception of the presidential race in 2008, where we gained Barack Obama as our president. Voter turnout was at 76 percent that year.

However, when it comes to city elections Trenton residnts have not been getting to the polls. In 2009, voter turnout was at 27 percent and a dismal 20 percent in 2007.

In Trenton's defense, incumbent Mayor Gerald Brown has been running uncontested since he made it into office in 2001.

So, who's not voting?

Voter turnout on Nov. 8, Election Day, may not hit 76 percent, or even 51 percent. So, why not?

Here are a few questions to answer:

For you non-voters out there: Why don't you vote?

And...

If I'm one of those non-voters, what would you tell me to get me to vote? Why should I vote?
