Trenton Park to Receive Big Makeover; Volunteers Wanted

Slocum Park is set to receive new playground equipment, and the city needs your help to get it ready for children.

After years of waiting, the wishes of children and parents throughout Trenton have been granted.

is receiving a facelift in the form of new playground equipment.

The park on the corner of Harrison and Third streets is set to receive a large playscape including swing-sets, slides, a climbing wall and much more.

The city of Trenton received Community Development Block Grant funds to purchase the equipment, but needs volunteers to set it up.

Joann Perna, assistant director of Trenton Parks and Recreation, is making a call out to residents, local business owners and people who just like helping out to offer their time and talents to give Slocum Truax Park a complete makeover.

The community build is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Volunteers are needed, and no experience is necessary.

All skill levels are welcome, and there will be a job for everyone, Perna said.

Donations in the form of money, material and food are welcome. Food donations would help feed the hungry volunteers busting their humps to get the park ready to go.
