Eager Marshmallow Seekers To Descend Upon Elizabeth Park in Trenton

Trenton residents gear up for the 26th anniversary of the Wayne County Parks Marshmallow Drop

Wayne County Parks Marshmallow Drop 2011 is taking place at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 22 at in Trenton.  Hopefully, marshmallows will be the only white stuff falling from the sky that day.

This has been an annual rite of spring for Trenton residents since 1985. More than 20,000 marshmallows will be dropped from a helicopter to an expected 4,000 kids, with prizes going to the children who gather the most marshmallows.

“The marshmallow drop is a wonderful family tradition for people from all over the metro area,” said Beverly Watts, Wayne County Parks Director. “With this being the 26th year, there are many people that attended the marshmallow drop as children who are now bringing their own kids.”

The event at Elizabeth Park is just one-half of the day’s marshmallow drop festivities, with Nankin Mills in Westland hosting another drop at 11 a.m.

“Elizabeth Park was chosen to accommodate all the families that live downriver that may not be able to make the drive to Westland,” said Watts. “Plus, Elizabeth Park is a great location with the open field right on the Detroit River.”

There will be ample parking around the perimeter of the park for those in attendance with Wayne County Parks staff on hand to guide attendees.

Elizabeth Park is located on Jefferson, east of I-75 and south of West Road in Trenton.
