Dog Days Are Here Again at the Trenton Aquatic Center

For the last eight years, dogs have taken over the Trenton Aquatic Center for this event.

Trenton dogs have it good. Few dogs in nearby areas get to spend three hours splish-splashing around in an enormous pool, while working on their bark-stroke.

is back at the on Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. and dogs big and small get the pool to themselves.

is sponsoring the eighth year of this event, which brought more than 200 dogs last year according to a release by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Get your pooch primped for several games including the doggy swimsuit competition and the people and pet look-alike contest—to name a few.

Although owners get in free, dogs must pay $5 for admission, and they are welcome to borrow the money from their owners.

Each dog must be licensed and have its own handler. Owners must show proof of rabies vaccination and be prepared for clean-up duty. Bortetella vaccination is recommended. 

Spectators must pay a $5 admission fee.

Several local businesses are set to be on site to offer pet-friendly information and products.

Veterinarian Dr. Gregory Raspbury of will also be on site to answer questions and to offer first-aid in case the fur begins to fly a little too high.

The will be showing owners how to administer basic doggy first-aid. The day will also include a visit by "Sparky the Fire Dog."

For the first time in eight years, "Molly," Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Joann Perna's yellow Labrador retriever will not be at the event due to an appointment with the doggy dentist.

But don't let that stop you from preregistering your pet at the Trenton Recreation Department, located at , on Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. On-site registration will begin at 11 a.m.
