City Administrator: 'Operational Error' Did Not Cause Flooding in Trenton

Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner said recent flooding was likely caused by an increase in rainfall.

Recent heavy rainfall has left many Trenton residents with flooded basements, which has caused untold amounts of damage to furniture and family heirlooms.

Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner Wagner said the flooding was likely caused by an increase in rainfall.

"I've found no operational error at the Trenton Waste Water Treatment Plant," Wagner said. "There were no equipment failures."

Trenton officials continue to investigate potential causes of the flooding, Wagner added.

Statewide Disaster Restoration has experienced a 50 percent increase in Downriver-business in their flood department over the past three weeks compared to this time last year, according to employee Wayne Hubbard.

Hubbard, 51, of Trenton, is an estimate consultant for the Southfield-based water and fire damage clean up and repair service.

"We've received 75 calls about water losses Downriver over the past two weeks," Hubbard said.

Wagner encouraged residents with flood damage to consider doing two basic things after experiencing flooding:

  1. Remove standing water and wet and damaged items to prevent mold.
  2. Contact your insurance provider and inform them of the situation.
