Blogging Live from the Trenton City Council Meeting

The regularly scheduled City Council Meeting at Trenton City Hall came to order at 8 p.m. Monday.

  • Ordinance 740 relating to Medical Marijuana Dispensaries: This is the second reading of this agenda item. the item was tabled on February 7, 2011 because council members said they needed more information regarding the ordinance before they could make a decision.

Tabled until August 1, 2011 until council members can attain more information on the issue.

  • Former Riverside Hospital Blighted Property, 2171 West Jefferson Ave.

Council members declared it a blighted property

There is no additional responsibility to the city regarding the property. The designation was set in hopes of setting a foundation in proceeding forward in the foundation in hopes that the property will be designated a Brownfield area.

  • Proposed Study Session Agenda for May 9, 2011.

The study session was approved.

Late Communications

  • Display cases were approved to be constructed inside Veterans Memorial Library for the purposes of showcasing war memorabilia. Any items to be placed in the cases would need to be approved by council members. The cases are at no cost to the city and would be on loan from a committee created to honor veterans.

Mayor Gerald Brown said the brave military act last night () reminded him that America has the greatest military in the world.

Department Heads and Officials

  • The electronics and tire recycling event on Saturday was a tremendous success according to Eric Witte the head of the Department of Public Works.
  • The annual Buzz Magazine will begin to be distributed on Saturday.

The meeting was moved to a closed session to reconvene with the possibility of action upon return from closed session. The recess could take about 30 minutes.

Council members reconvened after closed session and voted to approve the contract with the Trenton Fire Fighters Union.

Council members met with members of the Trenton Fire Fighters Union during closed session and agreed to a one year extention to their current contract.

The consessions on the contract were the same as last year and three firefighters were allowed to retire early in June in order to avoid the layoffs of three firefighters with the lowest seniority.
