Trenton Police Officer Arrests Drug Smuggler at Canadian Border

Trenton police officers work in tandem with U.S. Customs and Border Protection through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE.

A Trenton police officer assisted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Detroit man who attempted to smuggle marijuana into the U.S. from Canada at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel.

Trenton's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations made the arrest at about noon on Jan. 18 after being advised of the incident by a Customs and Border Patrol officer.

Officers said 19 small plastic bags of suspected marijuana were found in a bag in the backseat of a black 2012 Dodge Journey occupied by three people.

The 25-year-old man told police the marijuana belonged to him and the driver and passenger were unaware of the marijuana found in the vehicle. He said he forgot the marijuana was in his bag when he crossed into Canada that morning to get dental work, according to a Trenton police report.

The marijuana found weighed about 27.8 grams, according to same report.
