Police Diffuse Alleged Neighbor Dispute Involving a Handgun

Police said the initial call involved a 50-year-old Trenton resident and a nearby neighbor in a dispute over a dog.

Trenton police officers successfully and peacefully diffused a neighbor dispute allegedly involving a handgun at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue.

Police said they initially responded to a call involving a 50-year-old Trenton resident and a nearby neighbor in a dispute over a dog at about 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses reported the man went into his residence with an alleged handgun before police arrived, according to police.

"There were threats made to our citizens and our officers," Deputy Chief Steve Voss said.

Police evacuated five nearby households and secured the immediate area surrounding the man's residence.

The incident took place at about the same time Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack and the Trenton Baseball Association (TBA) were dedicating Slocum-Truax baseball field in honor of resident Clarence "Bud" Ennis.

Voss, a member of the TBA attended the ceremony, responded immediately still dressed in a baseball uniform. He assisted in diffusing the situation via a cell phone conversation with the man inside the house.

"The threat was real," Chief Jim Nardone said. "The officers of the Trenton Police Department and officers of neighboring communities did a great job diffusing the situation and brought it to a peaceful conclusion."
