Trenton Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Breaking Into Church, Resident's Car

The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

arrested a man who allegedly broke into a church and at least one resident's car at about 2 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 3100 block of Anna Ave.

Police responded to an alarm at at about 1 a.m. where they met with the pastor and saw a window broken out on the southeast side of the church.

Police entered the church through a backdoor and during a search of the building, found a shirt with blood on it, blood droplets on the window sill and window drapes, and blood smears on an office safe where the window was broken.

The pastor told police it did not appear anything was missing from the church.

Police collected the bloody items and tagged them as evidence, as well as a swab of blood.

At about 2 a.m., a resident reported seeing a shirtless man riding a bike and breaking into vehicles in the 3100 block of Anna Ave.

Police said the description of the man matched the description of a suspect in the break-in at the church and responded to the call.

After some difficulty locating the man, a Trenton police officer saw a head sticking up inside a parked vehicle next to a bike in front of a resident's house. The man was ordered out of the vehicle and to put his hands behind his back.

Police said the man resisted until an order was given for a police dog to engage him. Officers arrested the man and brought him back to the Trenton Police Department where he was able to clean a wound on his elbow that did not require medical attention, according to a Trenton police report.
