Trenton Man Attempts to Buy Assault Rifle Online, Loses Over $800

The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 55-year-old man told police he attempted to buy an AR-15 assault rifle through an online broker, but the seller requested additional money at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Trenton Police Department.

The man said he wired the seller $830 via Western Union for the rifle, but the seller asked for additional money to pay for shipping and shipping insurance. The man refused to pay the additional costs.

The man communicated with the seller via text message.

The man said he wants his money returned or he is going to attempt to go through civil court, according to a Trenton police report.

Western Union told the man that he needed a police report before they could release any information to him, according to the same report.

sounds like someone didn't read all of the fine print. "why should I have to pay for shipping?" ...because it's being shipped to you, genius. Good lord, I hope none of the dumb things I do end up on here! :)

A: Paying $800 for an AR-15 while all the crazies are hoarding them up? Unheard of. Price is too good to be true, but clearly this guy isn't playing with a full deck anyway. B: paying for an AR-15 with WESTERN UNION? Hello? I'll bet you bought all your furniture on Craiglist too, didn't you? It concerns me that people this dumb are buying assault rifles.
