Trenton Man Attempts to Buy Assault Rifle Online, Loses Over $800

A 55-year-old man told police he attempted to buy an AR-15 assault rifle through an online broker, but the seller requested additional money at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Trenton Police Department.

The man said he wired the seller $830 via Western Union for the rifle, but the seller asked for additional money to pay for shipping and shipping insurance. The man refused to pay the additional costs.

The man communicated with the seller via text message.

The man said he wants his money returned or he is going to attempt to go through civil court, according to a Trenton police report.

Western Union told the man that he needed a police report before they could release any information to him, according to the same report.
