Trenton Chief Calls Man Sought in School Bomb Scare a 'Serious Threat'

Trenton Police Chief William Lilienthal said the suspect related to a recent bomb threat at Trenton High School is a "serious threat."

The Buereau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is looking for a man who may be responsible for an April 28 and found at .

They believe the man is also a suspect in the detonation of an explosive near , 3080 Van Horn Road, on April 29, according to a release from the ATF and confirmed by Chief William Lilienthal.

Lilienthal said he believes the man is responsible for the bomb threat at the high school, the suspicious package found in the teacher's parking lot, and the detonation near ACO Hardware.

Lilienthal said the device detonated near ACO Hardware was similar to the device found in the teacher's parking lot, but he would not elaborate.

No one was injured in the high school bomb threat, although authorities used a water cannon to destroy a suspicious package found in the parking lot that day.

Both the Trenton Police Department and the ATF are currently investigating the three incidents and have provided a description of the man they believe to be responsible.

The man is described as white, age 25-35, medium to stocky build, and a short "military-style" haircut.

The man may wear an "OD green Air Force-type" flight jacket, cargo pants, dog tags or something around his neck, may carry a planner or organizer and may work at a job that requires him to wear identification, according to the ATF.

The man's vehicle was described by the ATF as a 2005 or 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer LS that may have a handicap tag or license plate.

Lilienthal urged residents to contact the Trenton Police Department immediately in the event that they see a man who fits the above description. Do not approach him.

"Don't do anything," Lilienthal said. "Just contact us. If they (residents) think they recognize him, just contact us."

Sgt. James Smellie of the Trenton Police Department is heading up the investigation into the three incidents.

WDIV has photos of the suspect, click here to see them. The bureau is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest. It had been set at $2,500, but WDIV was reporting Monday that it was now set at $5,000.
