Trenton Business Owner Charged with Sex with Underage Girl

The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Trenton business owner, 48, was arrested Saturday after a Trenton girl between the ages of 13 to 15 years old reported to police she had been raped by the man early that morning.

Rakeshkumar B. Patel, of Canton, was arraigned by an out-county prosecutor Saturday, Nov. 26, and charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a juvenile between the ages of 13 to 15, one count of criminal sexual conduct of force or coercion, and one count of selling/furnishing alcohol to a minor.

A preliminary examination of the evidence is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at the 33rd District Court, 19000 Van Horn Road, in Woodhaven.

Police said the girl knew the man, and the crime took place at the man's local business.

The man's bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000. He posted $5,000 cash for his bond and was released from custody of the Trenton police the same day as his arrest.

Police did not reveal the name of the business for fear of potential destruction of the property.

I heard then girl wanted money from him. Shes blackmailing him.
jen December 05, 2011 at 11:00 PM
This did happen the owner of foodmart did admit to doing things which is why he was arrested. It had nothing to do with blackmailing it has to do with a grown man who made a horrible decision and acted on his decision he has now ruined a girls life for years to come this is an issue that is being taken seriously and proves sometimes you cant trust people he goes by rocky or rakeesh he is known to sell to minors who may very well be your child.so I ask before judging this situation know the facts and the truth trenton residents should be working together to get him out of our city before this happens again im sure this was not the first time hes done this hes also been fined numerous amount of times for selling alcohol and tobacco to minors so as a parent ask yourself is this the kind of business owner you want in your city because i surely do not. i ask that people think before leaving comments on this site this young lady has been through enough and its just beginning i do not wish this on any parent this has taken a toll on our family and its just beginning.
jen December 05, 2011 at 11:08 PM
this did happen to my daughter you do not just get picked up for no reason i feel the city of trenton should know what kind of person owns a store in our city i pray that no parent ever has to go through this let alone watch their daughter go through this it is horrible and disgusting my goal is to make him pay for his mistake he took something from my daughter she'll never get back and it makes me sick please lets stick together and not give him any of our business i beg. thank you

Les- I completely understand your point. However, put yourself in the victim's shoes too. So, I won't sit there and talk about the guy because I believe in our system (locally at least, not everywhere). I think the truth will come out. If he is guilty nothing will fully give the security and freedom back to the young lady. Let's say that it is the truth. She will need therapy, love and support for many years. I believe people are capable of overcoming their circumstances if they really have the spirit. Jen/daughter- sounds like you have a strength in you and that you are very brave to come forward when so many do not. Remember that while you were a victim of this one situation that you don't have to be a victim in life. Stay strong, use the support of your family (good job momma bear!) and remember that there are still a lot of good people out there. Don't let what this one person did keep you from becoming all you can be. Do not let this one situation define who you are. Again, Les, I understand your side. I'm not saying he is guilty, but if he is he will pay. If he isn't guilty then the truth will come out and this girl will be in trouble for what she has done. So many times though victims get dismissed or put through such a terrible time going through the process they just want to give up. If the man is guilty there are so many ways of finding proof in these cases now. Good luck and have faith!

Sorry to say that even if he is found innocent I still would not let my children shop there. Being accused and the other stuff I have heard about this man since this story broke is enough for me to feel the need to protect them! He is a very shady character and should have been investigated long before this.

What about this? How nice. News Hearld: Off The Blotter Trenton Published: Tuesday, September 06, 2011 Trenton A 52-year-old woman told police she could smell marijuana inside Trenton Food Mart, 3720 Fort St., at about 9 p.m. Aug. 30. Police went to the store and talked to the 21-year-old cashier, who told police that the woman was lying. Police told her they would be informing the owners of the complaint and be patrolling the area. The cashier held her middle finger up at police.

It's really sad that you had to lie for attention. I hope you can live with yourself if rock is convicted of this LIE!
HONESTY11 December 13, 2011 at 03:11 AM
Oh and John that cashier was fired. The cashiers there are always friendly and helpful!

Unbelievable! ....And we wonder where bullying comes from! You should be ashamed of yourselves! You don't call a 15 year old out whether you believe it to be untrue or not or because of what kind of life you have heard this child leads!!! Shame, Shame on you!! This business owner is a grown man and can stand up for himself! I know for a fact that he does some shady stuff and this is the reason he is in this situation whether he committed this crime or not!

Attention Trenton Patch Editor....This has gotten way out of hand and I think this whole article should be deleted!
michelle December 13, 2011 at 02:39 PM
I agree with the last comment. The comments need to come down. There should be legal ramifications with mentioning the names of either and business when he wasn't convicted. Plus she is a minor and I thought people were supposed to keep their identities secret especially if they are possible victims of sexual crimes. Funny how brave people are with their words when they can hide who they are online. Even if she did something with him, he was an adult, she was a child and he should know better. If he didn't do anything then let the police and our system do their jobs. Some of these comments are disgusting and horrible and mean. Are you all perfect angels? Do you have the right to talk about others that way and judge? I agree with Thonya that this whole thing needs to come down. It is out of control!
