Update: Police and SWAT Surround House in Trenton, Near Anderson Elementary School

Several police officers including Chief William Lilienthal and the Downriver SWAT Team surrounded a house in Trenton Tuesday morning.

Officers from the , Chief William Lilienthal and the Downriver SWAT Team were armed and standing outside a house near the 1700 block of Hawthorne Street Tuesday morning.

Lilienthal was telling people to get away from the house and several police blockades have been set up on nearby streets.

Police would not immediately say Tuesday morning why they had surrounded the house.

Mayor Gerald Brown said a woman was inside the house with at least one "weapon." He did not say as to what kind of weapon was in the house.

He added he had no idea why the woman would not come out of the house.

Officers were trying to communicate with someone inside the house by using a loud speaker inside one of the patrol cars.

Police were telling the person or persons inside the home "we are here to help you."

is located a few blocks away from the surrounded house.

Anderson Principal Katheen Gibson said she and Superintendent John Savel were aware of the situation, but the school was not on lockdown.

"We are not in an official lockdown situation and are moving freely about the building, but it is not considered a lockdown," Gibson said.

Police told Gibson to keep everybody inside the building.

"The situation right now is fully contained, and they don’t want us to let kids out on the playground unless something changes," Gibson said. "We aren’t going to have outdoor recess or any activities outside the building."

She added if the situation on Hawthorne Street persists into the afternoon she and police will come up with a plan for the safe dismissal of Anderson students.
