Police Say Grosse Ile Girl 'Completely Made Up' Report

A sixth grader told police she was approached by a 60-year-old man at her bus stop.

A report regarding a 60-year-old man approaching a young girl at her bus stop at about 9 a.m. Tuesday was "completely made up," according to Grosse Ile Police Chief Joseph Porcarelli.

A sixth-grade student from Grosse Ile confessed to police she created a false report at about 1 p.m. the same day.

Porcarelli said he did not know why the Grosse Ile Middle School student made up the story and reported it to police.

The incident is under investigation.

"We're looking into what could have precipitated in the false report," Porcarelli said.

Police do not believe the girl was trying to implicate anyone in particular in the report.
