Police Blotter: Counterfeit $50 Bill Found at Credit Union

The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police arrived at the Metro Shores Credit Union, 2360 West Jefferson Ave., at about 3:30 p.m. July 20 after they received a call about a counterfeit $50 bill.

A manager told police that a counterfeit $50 bill had been received into the credit union.

The manager said she confirmed the bill was counterfeit when a device used for identifying counterfeit bills left a brown mark on the bill. She also found that the bill, when held up to light, had no presence of the president’s emblem or a watermark, which was further proof the bill was counterfeit.

The manager said she believed the bill was possibly accepted on July 8 during the Trenton Mid-Summer Festival, when the credit union was very busy.

She said she believed she knew which teller accepted the bill and knew who received the bill from the credit union.

A credit union member was given the bill in a lump sum of money at about 3:10 p.m. July 11.

The member then attempted to use the bill to make a purchase and the bill was found to be counterfeit. The clerk at the store gave the member back the bill.

He then brought the bill back to the credit union where the bill was exchanged for $50 of legal tender.

Police confiscated the counterfeit bill.
