Police Arrest Man Alledgedly Involved In Hit And Run

Using witness information, Trenton police track down man who was allegedly driving a friend's truck on a suspended license and left the scene of an accident.

tracked down and arrested a man who allegedly hit a truck at the intersection of King and Grange roads and drove off at about 4:15 p.m. Jan. 12.

According to police, the driver of a Ford F-150 reported he had been hit at the intersection but the man who hit him did not stop. Witnesses provided the license plate number of the man who fled the scene of the accident.

Police tracked the license plate to a man who owns a teal Ford Ranger and lives in the 1500 block of Marie Street. The truck matched the description of the truck witnesses said they saw fleeing the scene of the accident. Police said they saw fresh front-end damage to the truck when they arrived.

Police said the owner of the truck answered the door and told them another man had borrowed his truck. Police asked if they could search the house and found a man with several warrants related to driving violations sitting in a chair in the house.

Police took the man to the scene of the accident where the man driving the Ford F-150 identified him as the driver of the Ford Ranger.

The man whose car was hit told police he was stopped at the traffic light at King and Grange roads. He said he looked in his rearview mirror and saw a teal Ford Ranger come up behind him and strike his 2009 Ford F-150. 

After the collision the victim said he turned onto Grange Road to call the police and exchange information with the driver of the truck. However, the driver fled east on King Road.

Police arrested the driver of the Ford Ranger on warrants for driving while his license is suspended in the cities of Trenton and Riverview, driving the wrong way on a one way street and for driving without proof of insurance.

According to police the man’s driving record also showed 21 current suspensions with five prior convictions for plate confiscation.

The teal Ford Ranger was impounded by police.
