Man Arrested After Texting and Driving in Trenton

Trenton police arrested a 20-year-old man for possession of marijuana during a traffic stop in which the man was pulled over after texting and driving at about 1:30 a.m. March 30 on Fort Street near Emeline Avenue.

The man told police the reason his vehicle crossed the fog line on Fort Street near Marian and crossed the center line three times between Norwood Street and Van Horn Road was he was texting.

The man said, "I was texting, sorry. You can even check my messages," according to a Trenton police report.

The officer who pulled the man's vehicle over said he could smell a strong odor of marijuanna and asked the man where it was, to which the man replied, "It's in the center console," according to the same report.

Police found a prescription pill bottle containing marijuana in the center console.

The man was arrested and transported to the Trenton Police Department, where he was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and a civil infraction for texting and driving.
