Man and Boy Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Man Walking Along West Jefferson

arrested a 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy after the two allegedly attempted to steal a man’s cell phone as the man walked along West Jefferson Avenue at about 10 p.m. May 29.

The arresting officer said he saw two males chasing another man across West Jefferson and into the parking lot. The officer went into the parking lot to assist the man being chased and detained the other two men.

The 30-year-old man said he was walking home from a convenience store while playing a game on his cell phone when two unknown males pulled up next to him in a grey Ford and jumped out. He said the two men kept saying he had stolen their phone and attempted to grab his legs and tackle him.

The man and the boy were making threats and told the man they were mixed martial artists, according to a Trenton police report.

The 30-year-old man, who told police he was a military veteran, said he pulled a knife out of his pocket and swung it as he tried to back up and keep the two alleged attackers away.

When he got a chance to run, the man said he took it, but the men chased him.

The boy told police he had visited the same convenience store earlier that day and later realized he didn’t have his phone with him. The two returned to the store where they saw the 30-year-old man with a phone that the boy believed belonged to him, according to the report.

The boy said he was trying to hold the 30-year-old man down in order to check his phone.

The 30-year-old was able to unlock the phone with a password and showed an officer messages that proved the phone belonged to him.

After police arrested the men, they found three small baggies of marijuana and money lying on the floor of the vehicle they were driving.

Police confiscated the marijuana and $63 in cash found in the vehicle.

The boy said he had been stabbed during the altercation, but the arresting officer was unable to find any evidence of a stabbing.

The 24-year-old man told police an account of the night that was similar to the one told by the 17-year-old boy.
