Guns Missing From Resident's House

Trenton resident reports that a handgun and a shotgun are missing from a closet in her home.

Police responded to a report from a resident about missing firearms at about 2:44 p.m. April 22 in the 3000 block of Trumbull Street.

A woman, 54, told police that her son, 27, had kept two guns at her residence while he served as a soldier in Iraq.

A black Springfield XD40 .4o-caliber semi-automatic handgun and a black Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip were kept in a bedroom closet at the residence.

The man no longer lives at her residence and told her he was going to pick up the guns and take them to his house. But when the mother went to the closet to get the guns, they were missing.

She said she looked all over the house for the guns five times and could not find them. She added there were no signs of forced entry into the house and nothing else was missing.

Police spoke to the man over the phone who said he, too, looked for the guns and could not find them.

The mother said she could have misplaced the guns, but does not believe she did because “she hates guns and would remember if she moved them somewhere.”

She said she does not know anyone who would steal the guns and that she keeps her side door unlocked.

The guns were valued at $1,050.
