Grosse Ile Resident Wakes to Find Mailbox Missing

A 78-year-old Grosse Ile woman reported her mailbox was missing out of her front lawn at about 8 a.m. Oct. 7 in the 9100 block of Bellevue Road.
The woman told police she woke up to find her mailbox post lying in the front yard, but was unable to locate the mailbox that was attached to the post the previous day.
Police said the hole from which the pole was extracted appeared undisturbed and matched the size of the pole exactly.

The pole seemed to have been pulled from the ground and discarded into the yard, according to a Grosse Ile police report.
The woman said she had arrived home the day before the mailbox went missing after spending 59 days in the hospital, but was certain the pole and mailbox were in their proper places at that time.

Police searched but were unable to locate the mailbox.
