Grosse Ile Officials Release Statement On Employee's Recent Death

James Farrell, Grosse Ile resident and public works employee, died at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit on Monday night after he was buried alive in a cave-in while attempting to fix a broken water main.

Grosse Ile Township officials released a statement regarding the recent death of township public works employee James Farrell.

Farrell, 56, was injured on the job in a cave-in last week while attempting to fix a broken water main.

The Township of Grosse Ile is deeply saddened by the January 28, 2013 death of James Farrell.

Jim, a lifelong resident of Grosse Ile, worked for the Township for over 11 years. His positive attitude, upbeat demeanor and cheery "Good Morning" will be missed by the staff of the Township and the entire community. Sincere condolences go out to friends and the entire family of James Farrell.

Township Supervisor Brian Loftus said further details will be made available when Farrell's family permits.

"My fellow Township employee and friend Jim Farrell passed away peacefully yesterday evening in the company of his family and pastor," Loftus said. "We are heartbroken at his loss."

A memorial service will be scheduled and posted as soon as times are confirmed, according to the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Inc website.
