Driver Involved in Accident on Grosse Ile Free Bridge in Critical Condition

A two-car accident closed the Grosse Ile free bridge and injured both drivers Tuesday after one of the cars came to a rest on a railing.

One of the drivers involved in a two-car accident on the Grosse Ile free bridge was in critical condition Thursday, according to Sgt. Bradley Petraska of the Trenton Police Department.

A 47-year-old Trenton man was sedated to unconsciousness at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center following accident, which caused his vehicle to come to a rest on a bridge railing at about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday.

The man suffered several injuries during the crash including a head injury, which is making it difficult for officers to conclude an accident investigation.

Petraska said a preexisting medical condition might have been the cause of the accident, but cannot be confirmed due to the injury sustained during impact.

Police believe the man was not wearing a seat belt when crossing the bridge on his way to work at a Grosse Ile marina.
