Construction Worker in Grosse Ile Airlifted to Local Hospital: Update

An accident has left a man trapped in a trench and closed a portion of Meridian Road in Grosse Ile.

A township employee who had been trapped in a trench near Meridian Road on Grosse Ile on Thursday has been airlifted to a local hospital.

Grosse Ile Township Supervisor Brian Loftus confirmed that the man is an employee of Grosse Ile Township's Department of Public Works, and that he was rescued from a trench.

Loftus said that the cave-in or collapse of the trench that resulted in the man's injury is under investigation.

The construction accident has closed Meridian Road between Bridge and Horsemill in Grosse Ile, according to a report by WDIV TV.

Grosse Ile police are on the scene.
