Arson Task Force on the Scene of Fatal Early-Morning Condominium Fire

School has been cancelled at nearby Meridian Elementary School due to the size and nature of a fire that claimed the life of an 86-year-old female resident.

Arson investigators are investigating the cause of an early morning fire that claimed the life of an 86-year-old Grosse Ile woman.

Her name has not been released pending the notification of relatives, the Detroit Free Press said.

Fire erupted t the multi-unit condominium in the 26200 block of James Drive about 4:53 a.m. Thursday.

The building is located north of Meridian Elementary School, where classes have been cancelled today because of the size and nature of the fire.

The Free Press, citing a press release from the Grosse Ile Fire Department, said an arson task force that includes firefighters from Downriver departments, is investigating.
