Trenton Police Raise $7,000 for Local Charities at Grosse Ile Golf Outing

Gray clouds hung low in the afternoon sky as nearly 140 golfers took to the links in support of local charities at the 7th annual Officers Association Saturday at West Shore Golf & Country Club in Grosse Ile.

Gloomy weather did little to stop participants from donating more than $7,000 to the , which support needy local families and groups.

Some of the money raised will go to a student who plans to seek a career in law enforcement. The Lt. Bob Lothian Scholarship was designed by Trenton police to support one student, each year, that plans to attend college and major in criminal justice.

"I thought it went fairly smoothly considering the weather; the threat of rain all day," Hawkins said.

This was the first time the golf outing was held on a Saturday and not a Monday. Hawkins said he isn't sure what day next year's event will fall on.
