My Unusual Journey to Motherhood

I began to feel very sick to my stomach, and within seconds my life as well as our unborn daughter's were hanging by a very thin string.

Hello Everyone.  I have never in my life wrote anything, and I will begin by telling you that I am far from being a great writer.  But I will say this I have great passion for what is on my mind and I am hoping that will carry me in this experience of writing a blog.

My goal is to share my experiences with other mothers/woman to inspire you to never give up.  How ever that may reflect on you, if that means by reading my blog you find patience, hope, strength, and encouragement, whatever it may be as long as it helps then I feel I have done what I have set out to do.

So, for starters I want to share with you why my passion for doing this is so strong.  My life's dream was to become a mother.  My parents will tell you that even at a very young age I had all my kids' names picked out, how many of each gender I wanted -- the whole nine!

When I was 19 I met my husband.  God truly has blessed me with an amazing man.  In September of 2008 I married this wonderful man and we began the journey of a lifetime. The journey of becoming parents.

After six months of trying we were blessed with a perfectly healthy pregnancy.  Those nine months truly flew by and my husband and I took every class, read every book, and bought every single possible thing we could find in any shade of pink.

On the evening of January 15, 2010 I was at home preparing for our last "romantic" dinner before the arrival of Miss Kendall.  We were 3 days past due at this point.  My water broke at home and just like in the movies we were off to have our baby!  Little did we know that what would happen within the next few short hours would forever change our lives.

We were laughing and having fun like little kids waiting for my labor to progress when the unthinkable happened.  I began to feel very sick to my stomach, and within seconds my life as well as our unborn daughter's were hanging by a very thin string.

My amazing doctor with the help of the incredible nursing staff at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital delivered my daughter via emergency c-section while they struggled to save both of our lives.  My daughter was transferred to Children's Hospital where they performed the "Cooling Treatment" where as I was rushed to Wyandotte's ICU where the amazing staff did everything to save my life!

After suffering a seizure, full cardiac arrest, DIC (Dissiminated Intravascular Coagulation) and a coma I was on life support. The event was diagnosed as an Amniotic Fluid Embolism.

By the grace of god I got up out of that hospital bed 10 days after walking in to have my baby.  My daughter and I are both completely happy and healthy today.  Kendall is 16 months old now and a thriving, beautiful, incredibly smart young lady.  And as for myself I am honored to share with you all that as of yesterday I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second daughter to be named Harper Juliette.

My blog will be the journey that we are on.  Following our dream is the theme!  I have been so touched by the amazing people I was given the privileges to meet along my "Journey to Motherhood" and my hope is that for the readers I am able to share with you what I have learned along the way.  But most of all what gave me and my husband the strength to try again!
