Go Out to Eat!

Eating out with dietary restrictions can seem daunting....unless you know where to go!

When you have kids it's important to have a little husband-wife time every now and then just to keep that spark (and your sanity) alive. Last night my husband and I had an impromptu "night" (let's face it, "night" means anytime between lunch and 9 p.m.) out together thanks to his mom, who volunteered to watch the kids for a couple hours.

I've made a few pizza crusts at home, and they've turned out good, but nothing can replace that restaurant taste and atmosphere (not to mention no work for me). Buddy's Pizzeria in Dearborn seems to have gotten it right!

It's cooked in a pan with it's own tinfoil to avoid cross-contamination, brought out on a separate pan with the tinfoil, and served with it's own pizza cutter so you can do-it-yourself to avoid the kitchen using a contaminated one. The service was great and I could tell that everyone was well aware that my pizza had to be treated with a little extra attention.

I was craving Buddy's Pizza and that is exactly what I got. I couldn't taste that it was Glutten Free. The Spinach Lovers was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try another one!

It's a 4 square pizza, perfect size for one person and you can take a piece or two home for lunch tomorrow (OK, I'll best honest, I only had one piece left).

I didn't ask about cross-contamination in the ovens or with the toppings because I'm not that sensitive. If you are, just ask. I know they'd be happy to answer all that you have for them.

Going out to eat is important, you can't be stuck in your own house in a bubble for the rest of your life just because of a dietary restriction. Restaurants are becoming more and more adapted and willing to cook to all specifications. I also highly recommend reading Gluten Free For Dummies. There are a couple GREAT chapters on how to eat out, what questions to ask, how to address your waiter/waitress, and what to do when you're going to parties/dinners hosted by others.

**If anyone knows of any restaurants in Trenton with a gluten free menu, I'd love to check it out!**

Bonus: Buddy's also has a new whole grain crust that sounded really good as well! (Not gluten free though. Dang barley and rye.)

Tip: Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden are also great with gluten free options.

Calorie Breakdown:

Tonight was not about calories, it was all about enjoying every bite and minute with my husband. (Buddy's is currently working on the nutritional information part of their website. It should be up soon.)
