Walleye and Perch In the River This Weekend

Reports of walleye limits and good perch fishing on the Detroit River this weekend abound, with some rain expected as well.

Fishing in the river has been slow the past couple weeks, but things seem to be picking up a bit in time for local anglers to go out on the waters.

Fishermen out in the Detroit River have been catching increasing numbers of walleye, doing limits. Trenton Lighthouse bait shop owner Frank Chakrabarty said that the walleye being caught were “beautiful fish” and that fishermen are coming up with big and small fish.

“The undersized ones are a good sign for next year,” he said. He also added that people have been catching “big catfish” around 10 pounds out in the river.

Perch fishing has also been alright in spots in the river going south into Lake Erie. They have been spotted in the waters around Calf and Sugar Islands, as well as around the Cross Dike and Banana Dike.

Further south, anglers have found perch between Brest Bay and the buoys around the River Raisin, in about 20-25 feet of water.
