Trenton Fire Fighters Train Nurses at Oakwood Southshore

Trenton fire fighters trained nurses at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center in fire safety.

Staff members at were taught the basics of fire safety by Trenton fire fighters.

Nurses, administrators and other surgery center staff members took part in Fire Safety Day, which teamed the staff up with members of the to in order to learn how to properly handle a fire extinguisher according to an Oakwood release.

Administrative assistant Marjorie Kuhn had hands on experience with a fire extinguisher.

“It was a worthwhile experience,” she said. “I know what to do now.”

Staff learned to point the nozzle at the base of the fire, approach it slowly and back away from the area after the fire is put out, and to never turn their backs on the fire.

The fire extinguishers were donated to the fire department for training purposes and helped put out fires from up to 12 feet away.
