Slow Fishing, Few Fishermen Going Into Clear Weekend

Fishing is decent going into the weekend, with species such as silver bass and perch in the waters, though few anglers are out to capitalize.

Fishing is slow going into this weekend on the Detroit River, with few fishermen out on the waters working to catch anything.

“There are some silver bass in the river, which is unusual for this time of year,” said Frank Chakrabarty, owner of the Trenton Lighthouse bait shop.

As far as the slowdown in anglers, however, he had a broader view. “I think it’s the economy,” he said.

He said there are also decent numbers of walleye and smallmouth bass being caught in the river, as well as perch around Celeron and Sugar Islands.

Further south into Lake Erie, perch are being caught from Stony Point south to about a mile out from the River Raisin buoys in 23-25 feet of water.

Water temperatures are around the high 60s. The weather is forecasted to be in the high 60s and sunny all weekend, as well.
