You Could Be the Next 'Roar Idol'

Organizers of Roar on the River are looking for contestants for a singing competition.

You can be the first Roar Idol.

Organizers of Trenton's Roar on the River are seeking contestants for a singing competition that takes place July 23-24 on a stage at .

The competition is called Roar Idol and up to 150 contestants are welcome to belt out their favorite songs in hopes of winning one of three prizes.

  • First Place gets an iPod Nano 8GB MP3 Player.
  • Second Place gets a $100 Meijer gift card.
  • Third Place gets a $50 Best Buy gift card.

The competition is simple. Contestants will be split into two age groups, 8-17 years and 18 and up. For the first round, contestants will sing a song of their choice without any musical accompaniment. Round one is on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Those who survive the first round will go on to compete in the finals on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., only this time contestants will sing a different song of their choice with background music.

Contestants must register for the competition by filling out a registration form online at www.trentonroarontheriver.com/Idol-registration.shtml, or in person by picking up a form at the city clerk's office at .

Completed forms can be dropped off at the clerk's office and PKSA Karate, 2628 W. Jefferson Ave.

Registration fees are $15 before the event and $20 on the day of the event.

Contestants will receive a photo of themselves compliments of Best Buy, a hot dog, chips and bottled water.
