Calm waters, Quiet Fishing

Largely good weather for the weekend seems to have coincided with a slowdown in fishing action.

Walleye and silver bass fishing has slowed down, but fine weather should make good fishing this weekend, according to Frank Chakrabarty, owner of the Trenton Light House bait shop.

“The water is fine, the wind is down, and it’s slowed down some, but the waters are okay,” said Chakrabarty. He added that some anglers had been catching perch on the river, regardless of the slowdown in walleye and bass action.

The Michigan Department of Natural resources, meanwhile, warns boaters to be on the lookout for debris, such as logs and branches, flowing down the river from the storms earlier this week.

While the weather is predicted to be largely clear over the weekend, there remains a possibility of scattered thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, so boaters should use caution if the skies look bad.

Water temperatures range in the high 40s.
