The chance for precipitation is 80 percent on Thursday and 60 percent on Friday. There could be as much as one and a half inches of snow by Saturday morning -- just three days shy of Christmas Day.

If there is snow on the ground this weekend, it will likely hang around until the big day because temperatures are expected to range from 26 degrees Saturday night to 35 degrees on Christmas Day. On the Fahrenheit scale, the freezing point of water is 32 degrees, so the outside air could remain cold enough to keep the white stuff around long enough to open a few gifts.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) seems to believe in miracles. MDOT released a public request Thursday morning to remind drivers to keep their distance from snowplows when they’re working.

“Drivers must be cautious while snowplows are grooming the roads and not get too close to or drive around any snowplowing vehicle while it is at work,” Robert Conrad, director of Wayne County’s Roads Division, said in the release.
