Where Can I Get a Christmas Tree in Trenton, on Grosse Ile?

Christmas tree lots have popped up all over Downriver and Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch knows where you can get a tree locally.

Linda Zara said when it comes to Christmas trees, she's the only game in town -- or towns. Tree lots are scarce in Trenton and Grosse Ile. Trenton has zero. Grosse Ile has one -- the Grosse Ile Market Place.

Zara, Grosse Ile Market Place owner, said residents can choose from Michigan grown Fraser Firs, Nobel Firs, White or Concolor Firs and Douglas Firs.

"We don't sell many Scotch Pines," Zara said. "Fraser is number one."

Zara said the most important thing to remember about Christmas trees comes after the tree is selected and mounted in the house.

"Never let it get dry -- ever," Zara said. "Because once it dries the bottom is going to seal up and the water will never soak up."

Christmas tree owners should check the tree's water level each day to prolong the life of their trees.

Nadia Zara, Linda's daughter, said the most popular items are their Christmas Kissing Balls, which are evergreen branches balled up and decorated with bows and ornaments. The market place also specialize in fresh greens, patio pots and wreaths during the winter season.

The Zaras opened the Grosse Ile Market Place 12 years ago and take pride in providing something for every season and carrying Michigan made products.

"We have a little bit of everything here," Nadia Zara said.

Outside Trenton and Grosse Ile

Trenton residents unwilling or unable to make it across the bridge can find a Christmas tree at Dan K's Christmas Trees located on Allen Road in Woodhaven about a quarter of a mile north of West Road.
