What Do You Want to Replace the Old A&W in Trenton?

The A&W on West Jefferson Avenue has been closed for years. What would you like to see take its place?

It's been a long time since anyone served a steaming hot chilidog with a side of cheesy chili fries at the now closed A&W at 2975 W Jefferson Ave.

Perhaps, some residents have grown to accept the empty building just steps away from , but not Trenton Patch. No chance.

We want to know what you'd like to see take the place of the old A&W in Trenton?

To get the ball rolling, I'm going to offer up my suggestion: a rental shop where park goers can rent outdoor equipment like kayaks, scooters and bicycles.

Remember, there is no wrong answer and you can add as many suggestions as you like. Have fun with it and let's see where this goes.

Tell us what you think should replace the old A&W in the comment section below.

The A&W was part of our tradition when we went to Elizabeth Park. I personally wish they would just reopen...........

I would like to see A&W reopen right there... We are driving down to Rockwood to get our rootbeer floats and papa's burger.. It a wonderful summer treat and if they open in the cooler months before the snow flies, we would be there too eating out A&W favorites...

i would love it to be an A&W, but Nate's idea is awesome, too...however the park has a couple buildings that could be well suited to be a livery of sorts for bikes, kayaks, canoes, fishing poles, ice skates, skis and snowshoes. Barring that......a Coffee House! the A&W building even has a basement which could become a super cozy little conversation and caffeination station.

A&W would be GREAT!!!! Also like a coffee house!! We need a Starbucks around town!!!

We also miss the A&W. However, Nate does have a great idea. We should have something like that. Someone suggested within the park which would make sense. You can take pony rides, why not rent a bike or kayak? Kayaking would be really neat. I have some friends who do it over there.

If it were possible to expand the property for a reasonable price, reopening another A&W with inside seating AND another function would be great. But that would mean buying at least 3 homes next door and expanding the building.

A&w. To much history to turn it into something else. I love the story that comes wit that building. But I agree something needs to come and take over the space. I really do like nate's idea. But the main thing I cant see happening is making enough there to keep it alive. It be there for a year or two. We don't have the foot traffic that it requires. I love to see it being used verse sitting there.

I would love to see A&W reopen. If not, what about Biggby Coffee (pronounced Big-Bee). They are better than Starbucks, less expensive, and based in Michigan. Yum!

I too would love to see it re-open as an A&W. I moved down here from the Eastside 2 years ago and it was still open that summer. I was pretty excited since we did not have A&W on that side of town. It seems that with the park right there and a slightly expanded menu, take out sandwiches, soups, etc. that it should be able to make it. With the right menu I would think it could draw, boaters, fisherman and picnickers. I believe the potential is there it's not like downtown Trenton is over run with restaurants. Elida Ortiz Southlea

Like Nate's idea. If an A&W was viable in that location, it would still be open!

Someone posted something about a bar...i don't see it here now, tho. Anyway....that could be cool! picture this. with all the local people brewing their own 5 gallon buckets of beer, wine and mead as hobbiest, why not encourage the local hobbiest brewer to sell buckets of brew to the "Trenton Brewing Co-op" (or whatever) at a low cost to be sampled by the public. it would be fun and i think it would bring people into the downtown area. A different, fun and interesting way to spend an evening Downriver. Now to find someone to go out on a limb and give one of these ideas a shot! come on financial backers...who is willing to suppport one of these businesses???

I would like to see a caribou coffee shop.
Leah Derby May 26, 2012 at 05:19 PM
could maybe be a decent farmer's market? parking lot converted to stands. inside for year round use. pumpkins in October. trees in December...

A&W, but if that can't happen, park rental equipment is a good idea!

I would like to see it reopen since my parents owned it for 27 years and my husband Denny & I owned it for 6 years before we moved to AZ. and bought an A&W in 1986. Maybe we should bring it back to the "good old days ". We are the ones to do it !
