Trenton Woman Opens Resale Shop in Wyandotte

Children's and maternity resale shop moves onto Biddle Avenue.

Wyandotte shoppers have gained a new business to shop at this summer.

is a children's and maternity consignment shop, and it's location couldn't be better. Right next door to R.P. McMurphy's on Biddle Avenue, Mom's Little Secret is a bright addition to the downtown area.

The store accepts in-season clothes. Everything should be freshly cleaned and pressed. The better the condition, the more money the items will bring. Aside from clothes, they also accept infant and children's furniture, shoes, toys and decorations. The seller receives 40 percent of the money made off the items sold. Consignments last for 90 days.

Laura Deese of Trenton is the store owner and gets plenty of help from her own family. Daughters Rebecca, 24, and Kelsey, 18, and son Jeffrey all work at the store when needed.

"My sisters are good at setting up and decorating and I'm good at sales," said Jeffrey, 13.

The store opened May 16 and Deese said they're doing well.

"Everything has done well," she said. "People realize they don't have to pay full price for nice, quality items."

The bad economy makes more people creative in how they get by on a tight budget, and stores like hers take the stress out of shopping for the new arrival.

She said the maternity clothes go quick, as well as things such as strollers and cribs. She said people don't want to spend a lot of money for things they will only use for a short time.

The family loves their downtown Wyandotte location. Jeffrey attributes it to their success.

"Good location, good foot traffic," he said. "We came across it and she liked it."

They carry many name brands such as, Polo, Gymboree, Nike, Guess and many more for children, as well as Motherhood Maternity, Ann Taylor, Mimi and more for expecting moms.

The store's hours are Monday-Friday 10AM-7PM and Saturday 10AM-6PM. The address is 2928 Biddle Ave. Check out their Facebook page for sales and specials.

Downtown Wyandotte is an example of what Downtown Trenton should be like. I'm very happy for the Trenton resident to find success, It is just too bad that Trenton Politics chases away so many possible businesses to fill our Downtown Area. Congrats to Mom's little secret.
