Trader Joe's Responds to Trenton's Request

Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack recently sent an email to the company requesting a Trader Joe's location at Fort Street and Van Horn.

Trader Joe's is a no go -- at least for the next two years.

Rachel Broderick, a customer relations representative for Trader Joe's, said the company's two-year plan does not contain locations in Trenton. Trader Joe's officials do not plan to build another location anywhere in Michigan.

Many Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch readers speculated reasons why Trader Joe's would not come to Trenton and, according to Broderick, there's no secret algorithm or specific criteria for an area to get a Trader Joe's location.

"We don’t really comment with any more detail on how we select our locations," Boderick said.

Broderick said the best thing for area residents to do is request a Trader Joe's location on the company's website.

Location requests are seen by Trader Joe's officials and tabulated. Though, Broderick said she could not comment on whether requesting a location online would help bring a Trader Joe's to Trenton.

"It's certainly possible," Broderick said. "It's not in the two-year plan as of now and nothing for Michigan for the next couple years."

I'd rather have a Hiller's!

So be it...that's Trader Joe's loss. So, how about an email to Whole Foods, Mayor Stack? Detroit is getting one - how about Downriver?!

Hiller's would be a great alternative. It's a Michigan based company and they do a lot of charitable work too from what I hear. But back to Trader Joe's--can someone post the email address that that people need to send a request to. If everyone who reads the Patch gets the email address and sends a request for TJ's to look into the available Trenton site, they may take notice. Also, are there pictures of the inside of the building to send to TJ's so that they can see the possibilties. I think someone from the city could do that, or the owner of the building! Ann Arbor's Trader Joe's is a refurbished Whole Fooods/A&P. Someone please send the link so that all who want to can email a request. Thanks

Hi, Here's the link to request a store. I would also love either a Hiller's or a Whole Foods. http://www.traderjoes.com/about/location-requests-form.asp

Kyle any improvement in a grocery store would be appreciated. Love Whole Foods, Trader Joes as well. Give us something other than Kroger.

What happened to shop local? Support local business? Check out Concessi in Riverview. Local mom and pop store, many unique items, check it out just once. We will probably lose a few mom and pop stores once the big guys come it to the city.
