Looking for something to keep your kids occupied while they are out of school for the summer? Here are Patch’s Picks to keep them entertained!

  • DYPAC Fine Arts Summer Program:  The Scene: The Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center is offering a six-week camp from June 21-July 29, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Classes are open to children ages 5 and above and include art, clay, trash to treasures, theatre and drama, dance, mini musical, choir, sewing and more! Four different classes are offered every 45 minutes and participants can take as little as one class or make it an all-day experience, with day care being offered at the conclusion of the day.  Online registration begins April 1.   • YMCA Summer Day Camp:  The Scene: Join the Downriver Family YMCA as they “visit” Hollywood, travel through time this summer, check out the new Cars movie, celebrate Christmas in July and participate in many more activities that will create a fun-filled summer. Children ages 3-13 can be registered beginning March 1 for themed weeks beginning with Welcome Week, starting June 20, and ending with Send Off Week, the week of Aug. 29.  Teens ages 14-17 can also join the YMCA Summer Camp’s Counselor-in-Training Program from June 20-September 2. Prices range from $100-219 per week, depending on age, membership status, and if participants are choosing the half- or full-day option. The YMCA also offers weeklong sports and specialty camps beginning June 27 through the end of August.  So whether your child is an aspiring athlete, scientist, chef, performer or photographer, have them join in a specialized activity, including daily swimming and joining the day campers for weekly field trips. The cost is $187/week for YMCA members and $241/week for community participants.
  • Trenton Memorial Library Summer Reading Program: The Scene:  Children and teens age kindergarten and up can improve literacy while having fun, incorporating reading with special activities every Wednesday. From June 22 through the end of July, children and teens can beginning a reading log, come to the library every Wednesday for magicians and other activities, and put their name on the wall and win prizes for reaching reading hour goals. Registration begins June 6 and the program concludes with an end-of-summer celebration, including ice cream and outdoor games.  
  • Camp Otyokwah with the First Presbyterian Church of Trenton:  The Scene:  Go with the First Presbyterian Church of Trenton on a weeklong getaway to Camp Otyokway in Butler, Ohio. The theme of this year’s camp is “Exiled,” and can be enjoyed by third-seventh graders for a price of $265, and $275 for eighth-12th graders. From July 17-23 campers can enjoy their time at this Christian camp with activities such as crud wars, high rope, paintball, canoeing, swimming, crafts, a worship band and more.  Register online on First Presbyterian’s website beginning in late March.   • Vacation Bible School at the First Presbyterian Church of Trenton: The Scene:  Running from June 20-24 from 9 a.m.-noon, children ages 4 years to fifth grade can attend VBS at First Presbyterian. Themed “Son Surf,” this no-cost week will include such activities such as crafts, games, Bible stories and songs, to name a few. Let your children enjoy their first week out of school with a lot of fun mixed with spirituality and worship. For further information, contact Jamie Barwikowski at 734-775- 1836.
