Patch Picks: Best Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Celebrate the Mexican army's legendary victory at the Battle of Puebla by visiting one of Patch's Picks for the best places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! The entertainment, the tequila, and the delicious Mexican food will be enough to make you say "Bueno!"

Patch Picks:  Best Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

  • Blue Margarita Mexican Kitchen and Cantina: 23450 Allen Rd, Woodhaven, MI.  The Scene:  With roots from downtown Mexicantown of Detroit, the Blue Margarita brings authentic Mexican cuisine downriver.  Commemorate Cinco de Mayo starting at 3 p.m. at their outdoor party, with live entertainment including a DJ and face painting.  Margaritas will be flowing, as well as Coronas served by the Corona girls! 
  • Mexican Gardens: 15950 Eureka Rd, Southgate, MI.  The Scene:  This authentic family restaurant will be hosting their annual Cinco de Mayo celebration with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. Mexican Gardens will be offering food and drink specials all day inside the restaurant, as well as in the outside tent.  Check out the tent to hear the band “Cruizin Jupiter” and also enjoy fun for the while family with piñata braking, limbo, Macarena, and hula hoop contests, and face painting. When heading inside for dinner, enjoy complementary appetizers while you wait, but don’t fill up without trying their amazing sizzling fajitas!
  • Mexican Fiesta: 24310 Ford Road Dearborn Heights, MI. The Scene:  Three generations later, Mexican Fiesta is still providing great authentic Mexican food that is a favorite in Metro Detroit.  Take your family here for a more laid back atmosphere and sample their famous chicken and cheese enchiladas.  It wouldn’t be Cinco de Mayo without a margarita, on special for $3!  Other drink specials include bottled Mexican beer for $2.50 and 7 oz Cornitas $2 each or 6 for $10. 
  • On the Border Mexican Grill: 3310 Fairlane Drive Allen Park, MI. The Scene:  Let the fiesta begin On the Border!  From 11 a.m. until midnight, this Mexican Grill will be serving up drink specials, as well a lot of fun in a great atmosphere. Specials include $3 margaritas and draft beer, as well as $1 shots, with drinks being served by the Corona and Budweiser girls.  Whether it’s drinks or delicious Mexican food you desire, discover a fresh new favorite at On the Border!
  • Mexicantown, Southwest Detroit:  The Scene:  This vibrant and colorful neighborhood, full of authentic restaurants, shops, and tortilla factories, is an ideal location to spend Cinco de Mayo!  The street party starts at 11 a.m. with delicious Mexican food, DJs, margaritas, a parade, and more.  If you need a break from the crowd, head into one of the legendary restaurants in the area such as Mexican Town, Mexican Village, or Xochimilco and enjoy the fiesta!
