Many of the company's department stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, including all Macy's locations Southeast Michigan.

In the Black Friday tradition, the stores will offer specials geared toward specific times during the night. It's not clear how late the stores will remain open.

A news release said the store wants to make holiday shopping as "enjoyable and convenient for everyone" as possible.

Toys "R" Us was the first to open at 9 p.m. Thanksgiving night two years ago. Last year, it pushed its opening to 8 p.m. Other stores, including Target, Walmart, Sears and Kmart, followed suit.

All opened at either 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. last year and stayed open through the following day, Black Friday.
