A new business is coming to Downtown Trenton to fill the empty space next to Sage Studios.

Grosse Ile residents and business partners Sam Sobh and Rania Swidan are moving their business, TCI International, from their large warehouse in Wyandotte to the smaller location on West Jefferson.

Construction is currently underway to modify the space near 2719 W. Jefferson Ave. The two partners purchased the entire building and now lease the space next door to Sage Studios.

Sobh said the company provides fire and safety equipment and specializes in fire safety education to businesses and organizations around the world including Louisiana State University and Wayne County Community College District.

He added 95 percent of his business is directed overseas.

"We are the soul representative for whole middle east and parts of Africa," Sobh said.

What does a new business mean for Downtown Trenton?

I love this. A pro is that its success doesn't rely on foot traffic coming in (like retail or food). So they should be able to do well wherever they are. Now the more business we bring in and the less "ghost town" like downtown feels we can bring in more retail and businesses that need foot traffic. I think places are afraid to come in because it seems so empty. You would think with beautiful Elizabeth park (way nicer than Bishop) that we would have a thriving downtown. I welcome any business. When are we going to get a grocery store back in Trenton? Trafford Square is so empty these days. I hate the traffic at West and Allen. I can't be the only one that would like a place to shop that isn't so congested.
