Chrysler to Create 298 Jobs With $11.5M Investment to Trenton North Engine Plant

Looking for work? Chrysler might have something for you by September.

Need a job? Chrysler might have just what you're looking for.

Chrysler Group LLC announced Tuesday the company would invest $52 million in two Michigan engine plants—the Trenton North Engine Plant and the Dundee Engine Plant. The investment is expected to create 298 new jobs.

While the bulk of the investment will go to the Dundee Plant, Trenton North is expected to receive $11.5 million to add an assembly line to build the four-cylinder Tigershark engine.

The Dundee Plant is expected to receive $40.5 million to convert an assembly line to machine parts for the Tigershark engine.

Both lines are expected to begin production by the end of September.

“This investment by Chrysler is great news and is the direct result of the hard working UAW represented men and women at the Trenton Engine Complex producing one of the finest engines in the world, just give us the tools and investment and this workforce will do what it has done for many years and that is build the Best Engines, remember these are jobs located right here in Trenton, Michigan.” said Gabe Solano, president UAW Local 372.

The Trenton North Plant was shut down in May 2011, but was reopened in January 2012 after Chrysler invested $40 million in repurposing about 400,000-square feet of the massive plant.

Trenton officials worked closely with Chrysler to get the plant back up and running.

“I would like to thank the City of Trenton’s mayor and council members for allowing the proper tax incentives and abatements to Chrysler, as this and future investments are a direct result of those decisions,” Solano said.
