Trenton Village Theatre to Host Mrs. Michigan Coronation

This Saturday the Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant returns to the for the 2011 version of the competition.

The contest pits contestants from across the state of Michigan in interview, onstage question, swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Kyla Marcial, the reigning Mrs. Michigan United States, will host the competition, which marks its 25th anniversary with Saturday’s event.

"This is much more than just a beauty pageant and the private interview competition accounts for 50 percent of the total score," said Kristina Austin Scarcelli, executive director and producer, as well as a former Mrs. Michigan United States. "The woman who wins will be a very well-spoken, well-rounded individual who will serve as an ambassador for the state of Michigan at a time when we need positive role models in our communities the most."

This is the fifth time the committee has chosen the Trenton Village Theatre to host the event, which is expected to be filled to capacity on Saturday night.

“Our location was selected due to its lovely amenities and convenient location in a safe and supportive community,” said Scarcelli.

Part of the reason the pageant comes to Trenton is its proximity to the Third Friday Festival in Wyandotte, where the contestants test out their crowd skills the night before.

“Each year, the Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant contestants also appear in downtown Wyandotte during the festival on the Friday of pageant weekend,” said Scarcelli. “The reigning Mrs. Michigan and contestants entertain the festival audience on the Biddle Avenue stage, sign autographs and pose for photographs.”

Not to be confused with the Miss Michigan pageant, the winner of the Michigan sectional will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. United States, which bills itself as the premier pageant for married women. This year’s event is being held at the Las Vegas Hilton Resort in Las Vegas.

Advance tickets for the Mrs. Michigan United States pageant are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
