Grosse Ile Resident, Detroit Free Press Writer Wins National Journalism Award

Boston-based organization Oldways, a nonprofit food and nutrition education organization, presented the award celebrating whole grains on March 5.

Grosse Ile resident Susan Selasky was awarded the K. Dun Gifford Journalism Award Tuesday for her article “Nutritional Whole in One,” which appeared in the Detroit Free Press.

Selasky, food writer and Test Kitchen director for the Detroit Free Press, received the award from Oldways, a Boston-based nonprofit that encourages and educates people to eat healthy.

"Submissions were accepted based on this past year’s selected subject matter -- whole grains and their contribution to better health -- and were required to reflect one or more of Oldways’ founding principles: to be positive, practical, science-based, and tradition-based and to celebrate the pleasures of the table," according to an Oldways release.
