Allen and Van Horn Crossing Gets Dubbed 'Train of Doom'

The Trenton railroad crossing has its own Facebook page, and inspired passionate comments on the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch page.

Which railroad crossing in Trenton do you dread the most?

We posed this question to Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch readers on Facebook after one reader posted about his frustration with the crossing at Van Horn and Allen Road.

"On Friday, (Sept.) 20th, at about 4:15 I was coming down Allen toward the tracks and Allen was backed up all the way to the entrance of Meijer," wrote Patch reader Richard Gyolai in a board post. " Something should be done. Trains just 'sit' across the tracks for so long that it becomes dangerous."

Most readers agreed with Gyolai, saying that Allen and Van Horn is the worst.

"One day while running errands and Christmas shopping, I got stuck by that train SIX TIMES!" Mandy Roberts Trombly wrote. "If someone in Trenton or Woodhaven goes completely postal, it'll probably be because of that stinkin' train."

The crossing even has two of its own Facebook pages: "Van Horn Train of Doom" and "Screw You Train Blocking Allen Road Near Van Horn."

"Allen and Van Horn - so much of my time is wasted sitting at the train!" Jenni Kongeal wrote. "45 mins is an unacceptable amount of time to wait at a train."

Other crossings mentioned include King Road near West Jefferson and Fort Street and Van Horn.
